J,
don’t know if this has already been covered in ITGCD, but have you thought about using gloves like the NFL receivers use? or pine tar? you got the height. you just need some stiction.

Good luck MAn! I am now 41 and always dreamed of dunking and I actually did it. I am slightly taller than you and probably had a million attempts before I actually did it. I used plyometrics – jumping of varying height boxes and a two legged jump. The plyometrics were the key. The issue with palming the ball is a problem because you cant squek it in you actually have to get over the rim and push it down through. I practiced dunking with a softball , then a vollyball and finally a grippy basketball that wouldnt slip. Good luck man!!!!

Wow man. I just wrote about following dreams, etc. when I found your site. Keep up the good work. You encourage a lot of white, balding guys!
Anyway. Abs dude. It is all about abs. I knew a guy in HS who could dunk at about your height. He told me his core helped him do it.
All that said, I can barely grab the bottom of the net at 5′8″

hey man, i was introduced to this by the page 2 article yesterday – great site, great videos. i too am plagued by averageness (6′ 0″ – barely – and ultraskinny calves) and have often considered trying to reclaim glory days of barely dunking during an intramural bball game at gampel pavilion back… well, sometime in the late-90s. good luck and godspeed

If you have trouble gripping the ball with one hand, why don’t you try using two hands. Its easy to hold with just your fingertips instead of having to palm it. That is how I was first able to dunk. Good Luck.

Great to see the publicity you are getting. That’s really awesome. Can’t wait to see your successful dunk!

Hi, Interesting, I`ll quote it on my site later.
Thanks

Hi Jason,
Now that you are famous, can you lend me $5,000? Good luck with the dunk by 30. Before I turned 30, I attempted to eat 15 cupcakes in under 5 minutes. I can do it now, but I’m almost 33.

I have decided to take on this challenge as well. I am also getting close to 30, although I am still a couple of years off. I am going to neeed that time, however, because I am currently about six foot two, about 240, and a vertical of about two or three inches

What a great site you have. As mentioned before jumping is more than just calves. Calves help but it’s more about your core muscles. Especially your Abs. It’s cool to see someone focus so much on being able to dunk. I am 6′6″ and started dunking my freshman year in highschool. I am now 33 and haven’t been able to dunk for a few years due to lack of physical exercise and remaining in shape. Your site has give me motivation to find my hops again and put the ball through the net via “the dunk”. Thanks. Looking forward to seeing you succeed.

So when is the next attempt?
September 22nd, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Valiant efforts, but don’t do what I did. Just weeks after turning 30 my buddies and I decided to play some blacktop basketball while in Tahoe in early May of last year. After several games I decided to try and dunk like my college days prior to two reconstructive ankle surgeries. My friend had a flip-camera and you can see what happens next by watching the following http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0yzvPvXxR4
Just fast forward to the 1:00 minute mark and watch a high school track coach (me) break his right radial head. The follow-up commentary by my friends is quite funny as well (just listen to the big guy’s answer to if he’s ever broken a bone).
